Hollywood celebrities all seem to have been born with perfect teeth, but did you know many of them are actually wearing veneers? Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are attached to the front of your teeth to hide imperfection such discoloration, crookedness, and other blemishes. Veneers give you a bright confident smile just like the celebrities you seen on TV.
There Are Two Options When Choosing Dental Veneers
Porcelain Veneers – If you decide to choose porcelain veneers, a thin layer of enamel will be removed from your teeth and a mold will be taken in order to design your veneers. You will get temporary veneers to wear until the permanent ones are ready to be attached to your teeth.
Composite Resin Veneers – Composite resin veneers are made in the same way but the material is stronger and less likely to stain. One drawback they have is that they usually take an extra visit to attach to your teeth.
Are My Teeth Suitable For Veneers?
Veneers are a topical solution that’s designed to fit over strong and healthy teeth. Damaged teeth or teeth that have lost too much enamel are not suitable for this procedure. Additionally, patients who grind their teeth are not good candidates since clenching teeth may cause the veneers to chip and break. Talk to your dentist to see if veneers are right for you.
In order to make your veneers last, don’t bite your fingernails and be careful when biting hard foods such as chicken bones and ice cubes. If your veneers chip or break, you will need to see your dentist again to repair the veneer or have a crown made in order to stop cavities from forming under the veneer.
